Regalito De Dios Group's story

Losing one's life partner is one of the most difficult moments a woman can experience. However, many widows like Silvia find in their strength the motivation to continue on. She is sixty-two years old with three children (ages 39-44) and was able to offer a complete education. The children are currently married and have given her six grandchildren. Silvia finished up to the eighth grade, got married at sixteen, and two years later her first child was born, taking on responsibilities at a very young age.

She began the business of raising laying hens; high heat and lack of water made her lose the birds. Two years ago, she decided to reinvent herself and now buys and sells eggs to order from her house. Silvia asks for a second Kiva loan to purchase eggs wholesale. With this capital, she ensures meeting the high demand and strengthening her business. Silvia trusts she will generate more income to have the ability to continue covering her expenses.

The seven women from Costa Sur in the department/state of Suchitepéquez have formed Friendship Bridge's Regalito de Dios communal bank. They will invest the Kiva capital in the sale of eggs, firewood, animals, and convenience stores. They get training as part of Friendship Bridge's Microcrédito Plus program where they learn about savings and good investment. Bimonthly, the women receive a visit from a nurse who offers health services.

Thank you!
