Immaculate's story

Immaculate is 66 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has 6 children with 5 of them currently in school. For the past 15 years, Immaculate has been working hard to manage her restaurant where she sells cooked food. To help expand her business, Immaculate has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy raw food for cooking, and will help Immaculate to generate greater profits and improve on her sales and welfare of her family. Immaculate hopes that in the future she will be able to own a big restaurant. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
