Rose Maria's story

Rose Maria is 46 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has six children, with three of them currently in school. For the past six years, Rose Maria has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells rice, maize floor, sugar, salt. 

To help expand her business, Rose Maria has requested a loan of 3,800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more rice, beans and posho, and will help Rose Maria to generate greater profits, improve in the family well being, and boast business. 

Rose Maria hopes that in the future she will be able to construct her own house. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
