Moreen's story

Moureen is 38 years old and lives in the town of Kawempe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children who are all currently in school. For the past 6 years, Moureen has been working hard to manage her poultry rearing and charcoal selling businesses.

To help expand her business, Moureen has requested a loan of Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more birds and charcoal for sale. The loan will help Moureen to generate greater profits and will be able to educate her children. Moureen hopes that in the future she will be able to construct rental units.

She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
