Maria Noemy's story
María lives with her partner. She has three children aged 19, 12 and 9 years old. They live in a family house. Maria's husband works as an Uber driver. María has been earning a living selling tortillas for ten years. She was taught the business by her mother. María sells tortillas five days a week from 7 am to 12 noon. She starts by preparing the corn to take it to the mill. When she has everything ready she makes tortillas using a wood stove and a comal (griddle) to cover the orders from customers. She sells pupusas mainly on weekends. She sets up her businesses on the side of a main street.
María is requesting a loan so she can add capital to her businesses. The requested funds will be used to buy corn and wood wholesale to make and sell tortillas and pupusas. She will also be able to pay for repairs to the roof of her shop. The investment will lower her cost of acquiring goods and give her the opportunity to increase her sales and earnings.
She aspires to grow her business and reach economic stability to improve her family's lifestyle.
