Harriet
A loan of $1,550 helps to buy more general merchandise to sell.

Harriet's story
Harriet is 64 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Matugga region of Uganda. She is married and has 5 children who are all currently in school.
For the past 20 years, Harriet has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells rice, beans, soap, and posho. To help expand her business, Harriet has requested a loan of 5,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more general merchandise for sale, and will help Harriet generate greater profits and be able to expand her business.
Harriet hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
