Perla De Oro 3 Group's story
Omelia is 54 years old and didn't go to school because her parents couldn't afford it. She started working with her parents when she was very young, cutting and maintaining coffee crops for a farm nearby.
One of her friends told her of the Asociación Chajulense de Mujeres (ACMUV) and of the loans. Omelia has benefited from 12 loans already. She used the first six to invest in her grocery store. The 7th, 8th, and 9th loans she used to invest in pig farming. The most recent loans and the present one she will use to buy, raise, and sell chickens.
Omelia is the leader of the Perla de Oro 3 group, which is made up of three women from the Ladina ethnic group. Two of the members will invest in agriculture and one in sales. On average, each member has two children, and the average age of the members is 48. Two members are illiterate and one completed primary school.
