Oorathai lives in rural Northern Thailand, where many families rely on farming and seasonal work to get by. In recent years, many people from her community returned home after losing factory and construction jobs in the city, putting added pressure on already-limited local incomes.

While Oorathai still helps her family with farm work, artisan hammock weaving has become her most reliable source of income. She often says that while others lost jobs, her weaving work remained steady and paid fairly for her time. That stability has made a meaningful difference for her family’s daily needs.

Her primary goal is to support her children’s education, something she takes great pride in.   Although farming remains part of her life, Oorathai hopes to continue growing her hammock business so she can rely on it full time. The flexibility and consistency of weaving allow her to earn income while staying close to home.
