Maria Gregoria's story
María (age 47), is an example of effort and entrepreneurial vision. She is from the department/state of Quetzaltenango. She is a single mother, and has four children from 16 to 26 years of age. Two of them are students in ninth grade and the third year of university, while the older ones have a complete education and are married; María has two grandchildren. María only attended high school for two years.
For 21 years, she has had a variety store where she sells shoes, clothing, women's handbags, catalog products, fruit, snacks, and chocolate-covered fruit. Also, at the end of the year she sells seasonal fruits, and for special occasions she sells small gifts. Along with the business, in the mornings she sells snacks at the community school. To continue growing, María requests her second Kiva loan to buy more fruits, ingredients for her receipts, and a variety of merchandise such as shoes, clothing, and catalog products, to stock her shop and increase her income.
María speaks Spanish and participates in the program “Puente Al Éxito” [Bridge to Success] of Friendship Bridge. She receives various technical consultations, both in person and online, to gain more knowledge. The topics that she highlights are good customer service and preparing inventories. These topics surely will lead María to greater success.
María says, "Thank you, Kiva lenders."
