La Hacienda Group's story

Luz is a 24-year-old single woman who lives with her parents and 4 siblings. She is in her final year of university studies, majoring in social work. She started her business 6 years ago to help fund her studies and contribute to household expenses. She sells from her home and advertises on social media.

Luz is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy shoes, lotions, and personal care products at the wholesale level. Her goal is to have her own store.

Luz was elected President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “La Hacienda” by six Maya K’iche women who live in the department/state of Quiche. The majority of them are weavers or raise poultry. Another has her own restaurant. They participate in monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and healthcare services. A recent topic for the training was about how to manage loans wisely. Other topics are health, hygiene, nutrition, as well as business management. Every other month, they have access to basic healthcare services, including exams, consults, and family planning. (This photograph has been altered to protect the borrower's privacy)

Thanks to the Kiva lenders for learning about Luz and her friends. They strive to empower themselves and create better lives, and the lenders’ financial support helps them reach their goals.
