Alex's story

Alex is a young indigenous farmer from Caldono, Cauca, with 16 years of experience. He owns a one-hectare plot assigned by the indigenous council, where he has planted more than 5,000 coffee plants intercropped with banana crops. He uses part of the banana production to create natural agricultural inputs that strengthen his plants and improve soil fertility, allowing him to maintain a consistent and sustainable production.

Alex lives in his parents’ house. They are also farmers and support him in daily farm tasks, providing experience and assistance in crop management. He has a young son who lives with his mother in a nearby community.

A loan of $2,368,425 COP will help Alex purchase organic fertilizers to complement the fertilization of his crops, improving soil health and increasing plant productivity. This investment allows him to maintain sustainable land management, reduce chemical use, and optimize his harvests.
