Janet's story
Janet is 30 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has one child who is currently in school.
For the past 5 years, Janet has been working hard to manage her a hardware business which sells cement, nails and iron bars. To help expand her business, Janet has requested a loan of 2,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more cement, nails and iron bars, and will help Janet to generate greater profits and will be able to improve her standard of living. Janet hopes that in the future she will be able to construct rental units.
She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
