Aminah's story

Aminah is 51 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has 10 children who are all currently in school.

For the past 15 years, Aminah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells salt, soap, rice and sugar. To help expand her business, Aminah has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more general merchandise for sale, and will help Aminah to generate greater profits so she can improve her standard of living.

Aminah hopes that in the future she will be able to construct rental units.

She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but who have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
