A loan of $850 helps to purchase bananas, plantains, sweet potatoes, and vegetables to sell.

Mariam's story
Mariam is 52 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda, which is in the central region of Uganda. She is married and has one child who is currently in school. For the past 12 years, Mariam has been working hard to manage her greengrocer business where she sells produce.
To help expand her business, Mariam requested a loan of 3,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase bananas, plantains, sweet potatoes, and vegetables to sell. This will help Mariam generate greater profits, meet the basic needs of her family, and improve their standard of living. In the future, she would like to acquire land and build a residential house.
Mariam is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small-group members, like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but their businesses have grown and qualify for microloans.
