Rose's story
Rose is 50 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Central region of Uganda. She is married and has one child who is currently in school. For the past 11 years, she been working hard to manage her retail shop selling grocery items such as rice, pasta, snacks, and cooking oils.
To help expand her business, Rose has requested a loan of 5,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more items such as rice, pasta, snacks, cooking oils, salad dressings, sauces, spreads, herbs, spices, seasonings, breakfast cereals, jam, honey, sugar, and salt for sale. This will help her to generate greater profits.
Rose hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business to become a wholesaler and increase her savings. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
