Rosas De Villalinda Patzun Group's story

53-year-old Consuelo is a wife and mother to five children aged 13 to 25.

18 years ago, she started selling goods from catalogues. Three years later, she opened a second business selling delicious tarts, cakes and sweets. She lives in the state of Chimaltenango and works as a street vendor all week. Consuelo is a very busy lady!

She is seeking her fifth Kiva loan to buy ingredients at wholesale prices such as flour, sugar, eggs and butter in order to bake delicious cupcakes. In the future, Consuelo visualises setting up a formal cafe to show off her cakes and improve customer service.

There are nine women of Kaqchikel Maya descent who live in the rural area of Chimaltenango and make up the Friendship Bridge “Rosas de Villalinda Patzun”. These women have businesses selling cakes, snacks, catalogue goods. They make traditional clothing by hand.

They empower themselves during their monthly meetings taking part in interactive educational sessions. The topics are relevant to their lives and cover four areas: business, health, family and women. Every two months, the women have access to basic health services, a crucial component of the programme.

Women like Consuelo are opening the doors to a better future thanks to her determination and participation in the programme. Thank you, Kiva lenders!
