Eben Ezer Urbina Group's story
Thirty-two-year-old Juana is married to a weaver and the couple has two children who are seven and nine years old. She and her husband have a family weaving business that they started nine years ago. They have one employee. Juana arranges the thread for weaving “cortes”/traditional skirts, a job that takes a great deal of time, talent, and concentration. She is able to deliver six “cortes”/traditional skirts on a weekly basis. She is requesting her sixth Kiva loan to buy a large quantity of thread.
There are seven women who live in a rural area in the department/state of Quetaltenango and formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank ‘Eben Ezer Urbina”. These women all have traditional textile businesses. They feel fortunate to participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program that enables them to get loan support, participate in monthly interactive educational training (family, women, health, business) and bi-monthly healthcare services (exams, consults, family planning). They understand the tremendous impact that this program has on their lives and are determined to be successful, educate their children, raise their standard of living, and empower themselves.
Kiva lenders play a vital role in the lives of these women by supplying capital for their loans. They are unable to access credit from a bank. Thank you to each of you for your kindness and your support!
