A loan of $1,725 helps to buy raw materials and grow her hammock weaving business.

Khua

Khua's story

Khua lives in a rural village Northern Thailand that was founded by families fleeing violence near the Laos border. The village’s name means “Mother of Rest,” reflecting its role as a place of safety and resettlement. Today, most families in Mae Raem struggle to find reliable work as traditional farming becomes increasingly unstable.

Khua has lived in the village her entire life, even before there was a school to attend. With no formal education, her work options were always limited. She enjoys working with her hands, and artisan hammock weaving has proven to be a great fit. The income helps her meet daily needs and maintain her independence.

Khua doesn’t have grand ambitions — her hope is simply to stabilize her income, continue weaving, and ensure she is never a burden on her family. With this loan, she will invest in raw materials, so she can weave consistently and strengthen her financial security.
