Hmee

Hmee lives in a remote mountain community in Northern Thailand where farming is becoming increasingly unsustainable and steady jobs are scarce. Growing up, Hmee never attended school because there was no school in her village. Like many others, she later traveled to Bangkok for construction work, but returned home when there was no one to care for her children.

Hmee learned to weave hammocks from friends in her village and quickly found that the artisan work offered something she had never had before — stability. The income from weaving helps her pay for electricity, food, and small treats for her children, giving her family a better quality of life.

With this loan, Hmee will invest in raw materials to continue weaving consistently and strengthen her household’s financial security while remaining close to her family.
