Immaculate's story

Immaculate is 63 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Central region of Uganda. For the past 10 years, Immaculate has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells household supplies like rice, pasta, snacks, and cooking oils. To help expand her business, Immaculate has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more household supplies like rice, pasta, snacks, cooking oils, salad dressings, sauces, spreads, herbs, spices, seasonings, breakfast cereals, jam, honey, sugar, and salt. This will help Immaculate generate greater profits and repay the loan back in time as well as pay some of the house bills. Immaculate hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business to a bigger wholesaler, and increase her savings .She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
