Rose's story

Rose is 39 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Central region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children.

For the past 5 years, Rose has been working hard to manage her Beauty Salon, which plaits hair and does hair treatments. To help expand her business, Rose has requested a loan of 3,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy essential equipment for the salon such as styling chairs, shampoo stations, hairdryers, mirrors, and professional tools like scissors, clippers, and flat irons. This will help Rose to generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food and clothes.

Rose hopes that in the future she will be able to build rental units for business. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
