Harriet
A loan of $1,000 helps to buy more general merchandise to sell.

Harriet's story
Harriet is 52 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has six children with three of them currently in school.
For the past 20 years, Harriet has been working hard to manage her retail shop, where she sells sugar, salt and soap. To help expand her business, Harriet has requested a loan of 3,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more general merchandise to sell. It will help Harriet to generate greater profits and be able to improve her standard of living. Harriet hopes that in the future she will be able to construct rental units.
She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
