A loan of $2,275 helps to buy more general merchandise to sell in her shop.

Claire's story
Claire, 42, lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has eight children with five of them in school.
For the past 15 years Claire has worked hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar, salt and soap. To expand her business, Claire has requested a loan of 8,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more general merchandise and will help her generate greater profits, and she hopes to construct rental units in the future.
Claire is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
