Annet's story

Annet is 35 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Central region of Uganda. She is married and has four children who are all currently in school. For the past seven years, she has been working hard to manage her grocery store, which sells raw food.

To help expand her business, Annet has requested a loan of 3,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more bananas (including Matooke, a staple commonly known as plantain), sweet potatoes, and vegetables for resale. This will help Annet to generate greater profits and support her family with enough essential needs.

Annet hopes that in the future she will be able to acquire land and build a residential house. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
