A loan of $1,000 helps to buy more cement to sell.

Rose

Rose's story

Rose is 37 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has five children, with three of them currently in school. For the past six years, she has been working hard to manage her hardware store, which sells cement and iron sheets.

To help expand her business, she has requested a loan of 3,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more cement to sell, and will help Rose to generate greater profits and improve the standard of living.

She hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
