Simon's story

Simon is 43 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Mityana region of Uganda. He is married and has 12 children with 8 of them currently in school. For the past 10 years, Simon has been working hard to manage his stationary business, which owns a stationery/photo studio.

To help expand his business, Simon has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy another printer to use at the stationery store, and books and pens to sell.  It will also help Simon to generate greater profits, to pay the loan and buy food for the family. Simon hopes that in the future he will be able to build rental houses for business. He is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like him, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
