Lydia's story

Lydia is 29 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Central region of Uganda. She is married and has three children with two of them currently in school.

For the past seven years, Lydia has been working hard to manage her boutique, selling all kinds of adult clothes, like dresses, tops and bottoms; she also provides mobile money transactions.

To help expand her business, Lydia has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fashionable dresses, tops and bottoms for resale. This loan will help Lydia generate greater profits and manage to provide some basic needs and food for her family.

Lydia hopes that in the future she will be able to become a powerful business woman and own a big shop in town. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
