Annet's story

Annet is 45 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has 8 children; 7 of them are currently in school.

For the past 10 years, Annet has been working hard to manage her grocery store which sells fish, charcoal and raw food. To help expand her business, Annet has requested a loan of 4,000,000.00 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more raw food for sale.  This will help Annet generate greater profits so that she can educate her children. Annet hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land.

She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
