Mujeres Del Amanecer Group

Mujeres Del Amanecer Group's story

Fidelia, a thirty-two-year-old entrepreneur, lives in the San Marcos region. She is married to a farmer and is the mother of four children aged seven to thirteen. They are in kindergarten, second, fifth, and sixth grade.

Although Fidelia only has five years of formal education, she did not sit idly by and decided to take action by starting her own business. Eight years ago, she began raising pigs, sheep, cows, ducks, and free-range chickens. Because of the quality of the animals she offers, people come directly to her home to buy. Sometimes Fidelia sells at the local market. Due to high demand, she says she needs capital to buy cows, free-range chickens, pigs, and animal feed. This will allow Fidelia to expand her farm.

She is applying for her first Kiva loan to make her goal a reality. In the future, Fidelia hopes to start selling fruits and vegetables.

The seven Mayan Mam women of the Friendship Bridge Communal Bank “Mujeres del Amanecer” [Women of Dawn] group plan to invest capital in their businesses, which also include raising domestic animals, as this is profitable for them. These women receive training as part of Friendship Bridge's “Microcredit Plus” program, where they learn about saving and sound investment. In addition, they receive bimonthly visits from a nurse who offers all kinds of medical health services.

Thank you!
