Mary's story
As a community midwife for over 40 years, community has taught me the importance of respecting diverse culture, rights and individual expressions. I cherish these values and have learned much from the people I have served in Chicagoland. I am also from a large family and believe neighborhoods and community is like a big family and we need to respect our differences, celebrate our unique gifts and show up for one another.
Communities thrive when this happens. I also believe in compassionate responses to helping each other, treating each other how we would want to be treated. The People's cafe also embodies my core values due process and democracy. The People's cafe supports free speech, earnest conversations and mutual support so we all feel seen, respected.
