Mujeres Imparables Group's story

Twenty-six-year-old Josefina is married to a farmer, and they have two children who are four and six years old. She attended school for six years but could not continue because her parents were quite poor. She is happy that her oldest son is in kindergarten. Seven years ago, she opened her convenience store in her home in a community in the department/state of Quiché. She also started raising chickens that she sells from her home. Her goals are to enlarge the store and offer a greater variety of merchandise. She would like to use her first Kiva loan to buy basic products, as well as snack foods and beverages.

Josefina joined six other Maya Q’eqchi women to form the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Imparables”. All of them have the same businesses as Josefina. They appreciate the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, monthly educational training (health, family, women, business), and bi-monthly healthcare services (exams, consultations, family planning). Recent topics for the training have been about family hygiene and savings. A facilitator designs the training and uses pictures, diagrams, role-playing, and games to share the information. Every other month, they have access to basic healthcare services delivered by a traveling nurse.

Josefina and her friends appreciate the kindness of Kiva lenders from all parts of the world who fund their loans. Thank you to each of you!
