A loan of $15,000 helps support a Latina entrepreneur in going further with technology and her passion.

Maria Del Carmen's story

I am a Latina woman, born in Villavicencio, Colombia. In 2023, I migrated to the United States and settled in California after facing political persecution in my country. Since I was very young, I have been passionate about justice and supporting my community with truth. This led me to study law, and in 2007 I graduated as an attorney. For several years, I also taught law at the police academy in my country.

My life took a difficult turn when I lost my husband under tragic circumstances, leaving me as the sole caregiver of my daughter, whom I have raised with love and strength for more than thirteen years. That experience taught me resilience, how to reinvent myself, and how to fight with dignity for a better future.

When I arrived in the United States, I faced many challenges: adapting to a new language and working in jobs very different from my profession, such as cleaning, delivery, and childcare. Yet each job was a blessing, because it allowed me to provide for my daughter and keep hope alive.

Here, I discovered a new calling: helping Hispanic families protect their future through life and health insurance. Many families are not prepared for life’s unexpected events, and with the support of my partner, who has great experience in the field, I began training and dedicating myself to guiding families with reliable solutions.

My dream is to establish my own insurance agency, focused on bringing peace of mind and financial stability to the community, allowing me to grow and reach more families.

In addition, this project will also open doors for other people like me—immigrants seeking to rebuild their lives—to access professional, purpose-driven work and create more opportunities within our community.
