A loan of $10,500 helps a nurse-owned Hawaiian shaved ice and coffee shop create an outdoor seating area for customers.

Donna's story
I grew up with a love for both community and creativity. My background as a pediatric nurse practitioner taught me compassion, resilience, and the importance of small gestures that brighten someone’s day. After more than 15 years caring for families in hospitals and clinics, I felt a pull to create something joyful outside of medicine—a place where people could gather, relax, and feel uplifted.
That vision became Icy Bean, a Hawaiian shave-ice and specialty coffee café in sunny Delray Beach, Florida. I’m passionate about bringing people together, whether they’re locals looking for their daily coffee ritual or vacationers searching for a sweet, refreshing treat. My dream is to grow Icy Bean into a thriving neighborhood spot where great coffee, colorful shave ice, and fresh baked goods create small moments of happiness every day.
Icy Bean serves handcrafted espresso drinks, vibrant Hawaiian shave ice, and—soon—freshly baked pastries in a cozy, tropical setting just steps from the ocean. From the beginning, we’ve built our shop around more than drinks—we’re advocates for mental health and wellness. Our café collaborates with local programs supporting 988 suicide prevention, 211 community resources, and Vibrant.org initiatives. We display these resources in the shop and host events that remind visitors they are not alone. We want Icy Bean to be a safe space where anyone can gather to relax, de-stress, and feel accepted.
