Caroline's story

Caroline A. is a married lady with four children between the ages of two and six. Her husband is self employed. They hope to provide a good education for their children, educating them to the university level. Caroline is served by the Kitengela branch of SMEP. Her business, Mama Davy's shop, is located at Mukuru kwa Njenga and is well known. At Mama Davy's shop, Caroline provides tailoring services by making suits, skirts, and trousers for local people. Also in her shop, she stocks rice, bread, sugar, detergents, and other general items, which she sells to her repeat customers. She says that this business is profitable and she only has one major challenge: customers have a variety of choices because there are very many people in the area doing the same kind of business as hers. However, she works very hard to keep her business doing well. She is using her loan of 50,000 KES to buy more fabric to expand her business and meet her customers' demand. In the future, she hopes to open her own boutique. She describes herself as hardworking and humble.
