A loan helped us to pay advances to our partner farmers for the chilli, pepper & cardamom harvests.

Sana's story

I grew up in post-colonial Mumbai, India in the 90s. I started Diaspora Co. in 2017 as a 23 year old because I watched the rise of turmeric in the USA, and acted on a hunch that this superfood trend wasn't profiting the farmers growing this ancient "superfood". I started Diaspora because after 6 months of research, I realized that if nobody else was willing to bring equity into sourcing better spices, I should just do it myself. I started the business with the $3000 from my 2016 tax refund, and we've sold out of every harvest of spices we've offered ever since. What started as a small experiment in radical sourcing and sustainable spice agriculture has turned into my full time job with four employees and big, big dreams of how we can continue to make a difference.

This loan is special because:

It supports an amazing entrepreneur in her quest to bring equity to the spice trade.
