A loan of $500 helped a member to purchase a solar energy home system to benefit a loving family.

Blas' Group's story

Blas is a great artisan from a small village called Mezquital. He plants many seeds for self-consumption on land his family has owned for generations. In order to support his family, he sells handcrafted jewelry and more to the tourists at the local market.

As a father, Blas wants his children to go to school and study as hard as they can. Because planting and harvesting, as well as making the crafts, is too much work for just one person, Blas's kids help for a little while with the crops as soon as they arrive home. At nighttime they work on their school projects while Blas finishes his handcrafts.

Since the electrical grid is far away from where he lives, Blas has to light his house with candles, which are both known for emitting a lot of smoke and a dim light. After being concerned of what this way of lighting his house would do to his family's health and work, Blas decided to get a solar energy system.

With this solar system he would be able to get much better illumination and save money on candle costs. His children would also be able to study properly.
