Ini's story

I've had the opportunity to overcome many obstacles in my life, including domestic violence, poverty, and the struggle for entrepreneurship as a woman of color. . I say opportunity because I now see that all of my successes were fertilized by my failures.

In 2006, I was named businesswoman of the year. By 2007, I was forced to apply for food stamps. As luck would have it, my fall from heaven was featured in the Huffington Post! I benefited from this experience by discovering a skill I use today-the power of publicity. When my mortgage company published a notice of foreclosure, I was galvanized to take action. I knew that I couldn’t be the only one having difficulty with my mortgage company, and wanted to draw attention to the plight of homeowners nationwide. My press release is what resulted in me being featured on the Huffington Post. I was able to stay in my house for much longer than I had expected, and fellow homeowners were able to see that they were not alone in the foreclosure. In this journey, I’ve learned the power of resiliency, and making the most out of what you have. I'd like to pay it forward by transforming my business into a thriving part of moving our community toward economic independence.
