A loan of $2,850 helped a member to purchase renewable energy products for his home.

Chasasi 1 Group's story

Raphael lives in a rural community in eastern Zambia, near the other members of Chasasi 1 Group. He is a 55-year-old married man with 2 grown-up children, and he's an experienced farmer.

Raphael has been working in agro-forestry for the past two years, and the thing he finds most satisfying about his work is seeing the response of farmers to the challenges they face due to global warming. And so that he can make even more of a positive impact in future, Raphael hopes to have a commercial tree nursery one day!

Raphael is purchasing a clean cookstove, a supply of clean-burning wood pellets for fuel, and a solar home system that includes lights and a phone charger.

He says these products will improve his living conditions by enabling him to save money, particularly since he won’t be buying expensive charcoal any more. He also thinks purchasing these products is important because they can reduce the negative impact of global warming.
