A loan of $275 helped to purchase a solar energy home system to save money and protect her family.

Dimila's story

solar home systemDimila is a farmer who lives with her husband and sons in a share-land called Chilam Balam. Chilam Balam is located in Campeche, a Mexican state where there are many communities that lack access to basic services such as electricity. To have light in her house, Dimila uses candles and wood, which are harmful for her family due to the smoke. Now, Dimila wants to purchase a solar home system to provide her family with a reliable and safe light source. With the solar home system, Dimila's children will be able to turn on the light bulbs to do their homework while she connects a radio or a fan. Besides, she will save almost 450 MXN per month, savings that she can use for incidentals.

This loan is special because:

It will provide solar power to remote communities in Mexico--electricity for the very first time!
