A loan of $150 helped to purchase a solar energy home system to provide quality study and family time.

Martin's story

In a small community down by the state of Guerrero in San Luis Acatlán, lives Martin and his family. Martin is a farmer and works in the corn fields every day. Martin usually harvests his crops for his own consumption, and whatever he or his family doesn’t eat, he sells off to other people in his community to make a living. He’s an old man who often receives a little help from his children, but he looks after himself most of the time. Besides saving up to $150 MXN pesos a month worth of candles, Martin wants to purchase a solar energy home system to be able to see properly at night, where he’s usually surrounded by poisonous animals, such as snakes, that are not very easy to spot in the dark.

This loan is special because:

It will provide solar power to remote communities in Mexico--electricity for the very first time!
