A loan of $10,000 helped purchase the materials to officially launch our bakery and make our Little Luna diabetic friendly menu.

Hannah's story

Hi there! I'm Hannah. A nerdy-gaming-super-mom-pastry-chef by day, and well.. honestly the same at night!

I was born and raised in the Spanish Harlem area of New York City, one of the original Schools of Hard Knocks, where I proudly "graduated" and moved on with flying colors. Never really fitting into the trends of my neighborhood, which for many included random hangouts on the corner, cutting school, and all around adolescent debauchery, I kept my head in the books and soon realized my interests were not the same as those around me. I graduated from high school, two undergraduate programs, and was on a steady path to achieving my dream of being a pastry chef.

Today, I am happily engaged to my business partner and with our daughter, we have made my dream our family's dream. Our daughter, Luna has served as a major inspiration for our business. Luna was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes before her first birthday. After seeing how her diabetes changed what Luna could eat and how carefully we had to consider and measure what she was eating, we decided to create an allergen and special needs menu, fittingly named "Little Luna".

But why fund our loan? Simply put, our goal in life is to share our value of family togetherness and comradery with a world who seems to have forgotten how to love. 8 Bit Bakeshop, our video game and comic book inspired bakery, is just the first step to uniting a subculture often forgotten.
