Omar's story

My father and mother taught me about hard work, entrepreneurship and education. For the first part of my childhood I grew up in Oaxaca, Mexico at age 10 my family migrated to the U.S. upon arriving my father immediately joined the United Brothers Of Carpenters of America Local 721 union. I attended middle school not knowing a word of English, learning a new language was a challenge. My siblings and I attended school in El Sereno, California and excelled academically. While in high school my father transitioned to a carpenter company closer to home that did retail interiors and trade shows.

In high school, I achieved a 3.5 GPA and enrolled at Cal State Los Angeles graduating with a degree in Spanish Literature and working part-time at my fathers company to pay for my college tuition. Soon after graduating college, my father's company closed its doors in ‘09. A quick family decision was made to start our own cabinetmaker company and ignite our entrepreneurial spirit and skill set and in the summer of '09, Master Custom Cabinets (MCC) was born. Today we feel confident enough to say that my fathers and great grandfathers carpenters skill-set both in Mexico and in the U.S with my education and my 10 years of experience are the perfect combination to build a successful business with my family.
