My passion is helping others look their best (as the phrase goes, "the beauty of a woman is the hair"). Nothing makes me happier than seeing the smile on my clients' faces after doing the finishing touches on them. I walked my kids to school and volunteered so many times to do these young kids' hair, and they love it so much and feel satisfied. Through my work, I feel that I am uplifting future doctors, teachers, or whatever these individuals grow up to be.

I am a hair stylist that specializes mainly in braids and extensions. I have a small salon on East Washington Ave, which I plan to extend in January next year. My landlord recognizes my ambition and will to grow and offers me a more prominent space which I intend to use for braiding; I will use the other portion to sell some supplies and invest in a booth rental to generate more revenue. It was during the pandemic that I decided to stop renting a booth to get my own place for safety. The space and ability to provide one-on-one services were crucial for my clients' safety.

My business will be significantly impacted because, instead of sending my clients to the beauty supply to buy all the products, I will have those supplies myself. Those cost a lot of money, and sometimes I don’t like the quality of products I have had to use in the past. I will sell particular beauty products to them and earn extra on the sales of the items. Some of the loan funds will also go to acquiring equipment – chairs, wash stations, and a hair dryer.

Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
