A loan helped bridge the gap of health disparities.
As a native of Baltimore City, my heart thrives with memories so different from headlines in the local and national news about my city. The corner penny candy store and elementary school principal who could see my potential sparked the beginning of my entrepreneur journey. You see, at the tender age of seven, I started my first business selling penny candy in school. I was a class tutor and I participated in my first public speaking contest. I could make money, teach people, and engage a crowd...the feeling was invigorating! What I could do became a no brainier, but the how with purpose was soon to come. My grandfather was retired military, he loved to exercise. My grandmom was a stay at home mom who loved to cook and I was the kid who ate all the veggies that most kids would not. Their influence had a tremendous impact on my love for fitness and nutrition. The irony of the story is that I lost both of my grandparents to lifestyle induced chronic illnesses. In 2016 I decided to pursue a certification in Advance Health Coaching at Dr. Sears Wellness Institute to augment my Zumba fitness certification. Merging the innovative dance fitness with nutrition and behavior change coaching took Amani Nicol to the next level with the ability to offer full circle wellness support. My passion is fueled by knowing the information I have with training in behavior change coaching will save lives. This passion energizes my purpose to be relentless in my efforts to connect community with health education initiatives that empower positive change.
