After more than two years of monitoring and attempting to recover this loan, Kiva is proposing to write off the outstanding balance due to the very limited likelihood of recovery. The loan’s final repayment was due in March 2024, and to date, Kiva has not received any payments.
UOPROCAE has faced significant challenges, including an extreme drought in 2024 that reduced cacao production from an average of 100 tons to just 23 tons. They have drastically reduced operating costs and are dependent on securing advances from buyers to resume purchasing.
Given the extended delinquency, the absence of any repayments, and the uncertainty of future recovery, we believe it is appropriate to close this chapter and write off the loan.
We remain committed to prudent stewardship of lender funds and will continue to pursue recoveries where there is a realistic path to repayment.
