Kiva Lending Team: Kathleen Smith & Léonidas Tsacas Memorial Fund
We loan because...
we help people help themselves.
Kathleen Smith (December 25, 1959 - February 16, 2011) was a skilled biologist, who dedicated her life to fighting cancer.
Léonidas Tsacas (Sept. 11 1923 - Oct. 25 2016) was an entomologist, traveling the world to catch Drosophila: fruit flies, an essential model organism for genetics research.
They were both intensely curious and liked to discuss various scientific topics as well as places in the world that they had visited – or wanted to.
The lives of Kathleen and Leonidas also shared a similar trajectory: they were both born abroad – Texas, USA for her, and the Greek island of Samos for him – but they both made their home in Paris in France.
Kiva is open to anyone wishing to join a friendly, international team.
Kathleen Smith (25 dec.
