Today, most men support their families through their own businesses, such as growing vegetables, selling clothing, and weaving “güipiles” [traditional tunics or blouses]. These businesses have been made possible thanks to the helping hand extended by people from Kiva in different parts of the world. Among these men who have been working hard day after day to sustain their businesses is José, who was granted a loan just nine months ago. He was very happy to be able to invest it in fertilizer for the crops he grows in his village. This plan enabled José to produce a good harvest for his customers. He is once again growing blackberries, but to achieve a good yield, he needs to invest. As a result, he approached the Association to request a new loan and invest it in the purchase of fertilizers and pesticides. He is looking forward to the opportunity to receive this loan. Tecpán Guatemala is a touristic place where Iximché is located. Lesvia, a 27-year-old single woman, lives in this place. She is the mother of a lovely child who is a minor. Lesvia's source of income is making beautiful güipiles [embroidered blouses] for the ladies of her village. She has been in this business for approximately five years, which has given her the opportunity to earn her income. She is happy with what she does as only in this way does she have a secure income to cover the expenses which come up regularly in her household. Lesvia's wish is to make the most of selling a larger number of güipiles for this Holy Week season. For this reason, she approaches the association to ask for a loan and to invest it in the purchase of fine thread in a variety of colors. Of course, she is grateful to Kiva for extending a friendly hand to the people of Guatemala.

Tecpán Guatemala is known for a tourist site called Iximché, a beautiful place full of forests and friendly people. Estefany, an enthusiastic, hardworking woman and mother, lives there. She is currently 26 years old and married. Estefany has a business selling women's clothing. She additionally offers her customers underwear and sandals. She is happy she has this business since it is giving her the opportunity to have an income to support her lovely family. She leads the group named Amigas de Tecpán, made up of 4 hardworking women. Estefany is on the left in the photo. The women see they need to increase their sales during this season. On account of this, they are looking for a loan to invest in the purchase of different products. Estefany's plan, in particular, is to buy underwear and sandals. Juan lives in the village of Guineales which is in Boca Costa de Sololá. He is 41 years old, married and a father. With effort and courage Juan works building housing in different parts of his community. To earn extra income he also grows corn. Thanks to both of these sources of income Juan is able to put food on the table and provide what is needed. He is happy about this being the only way he earns an income. One of Juan's goals is to achieve a good corn harvest and therefore has turned to the ADICLA association to apply for a loan to buy fertilizer. Juan is excited about this opportunity and is grateful to Kiva for taking into account the needs of men from Guatemala.

The business that Manuela started is growing and selling corn, retail and wholesale. To strengthen her economic earnings she also sells firewood and makes beautiful traditional blouses in her town. Thanks to these businesses Manuela has an increasingly secure income. Manuela is the current leader of the Tzucubal Las Eternas Group which consists of three courageous, hardworking women who have the same goal. Manuela is the one in the middle in the photo. They need to strengthen their businesses and therefore seek a loan to invest. Manuela is planning to buy fertilizer for her corn crop. They are meeting these objectives thanks to the understanding of people from Kiva who moreover support these men for a better life. Amongst these men is Walter. He is 35 years old. He currently cares for and manages his business, a staple foods store. In 2024 Walter fortunately was the recipient of a loan that he very happily invest in the purchase of material for his house. He is content with what he did as only in this manner was he able to improve his living conditions along with his family.
