About me:
A Chartered Secretary is a member of The Chartered Governance Institute (http://www.cgi.org.uk) and is primarily involved in ensuring that his or her employing company meets its legal, compliance and regulatory obligations and that it is managed in accordance with the best standards of corporate governance. The role is also concerned with corporate ethics and social responsibility and has often been described as being that of the "conscience of the company". In practice it's about trying to stop the directors doing anything daft enough to get themselves banged up.
