I loan because:
I believe that I am fortunate to live in the society that I do and that wealth is based on the backs of other less fortunate societies so I owe some responsibility. In the past it has been difficult to assist other than through religious groups who all push their own agendas.
About me:
Aoteroa/New Zealand was isolated from the rest of the world until only about 1000 years ago when the first people (Tangata Whenua or Maori) arrived. Europeans did not discover it until 300 years ago. Before people there were no mammals and many birds had filled that role and nested on the ground and many were flightless. There were relatively few plant species. Since settlement, especially white (Pakeha) colonisation, many animals and plants have been brought here. Many have become serious pests (there are now as many 'weeds' as there are native plants!). My job is in pest control administration. We try to minimise the effects of pests on our ecosystem and identify new pests and attempt to eradicate them before they spread. I work for a regional council.
