I loan because:
There's this great story which I have made into my philosophy in life that if you give a person a fish you feed them for a day, but with a fishing rod, their whole life. The problem with charities for me has always been the question you ask yourself, are you giving a fish or the fishing rod. In my view encouraging economic enterprise is the one way guaranteed to lift the unfortunate people of this world out of poverty. If I can help people realise their dreams and make a better life for themselves and their families and communities, and not disempower them in the process then I have, at the very least, a moral obligation to do so - but this gives me joy - to share the bounty of living in a prosperous first world country.
About me:
I am a Director of a boutique coffee roasting business which imports raw coffee, roasts and blends it, and sells it in Australia.
